The following day, Jack stopped by the Carey corporate offices with one destination in mind. He hadn’t been able to get Serena out of his mind since their lunch date. All night, he’d been haunted by memories that were so stark, so real, that he’d actually been reaching for her when he woke up that morning.

He didn’t like being twisted around by his own dreams and it was time to put a stop to it. Jack walked to Serena’s office, nodded at her assistant, then strolled through the door and into her office. He liked catching her off guard. He’d expected to see a jolt of surprise in her eyes, but he hadn’t expected...speculation.

“Jack.” She gave him a smile that was both seductive and secretive. Now he was intrigued.

“Serena. I wanted to go over a few last-minute changes to the hotel lineup.”

“What changes?” Serena sat back in her desk chair and stared at him. She was wearing a lemon yellow silk shirt with a wide collar that skimmed over her shoulders. Her honey-blond hair fell in soft waves that made him want to spear his fingers through it.

She looked beautiful. Damn it.

“We’re sending the program to the printer this afternoon.”

“Then I’m just in time,” he said, dipping one hand into his pocket and coming up with a USB key. He walked closer, handed her the black key and said, “Not a big deal. I’m just adding one more hotel to the mix.”

She glanced at the key, then up at him. “Which hotel?”

“It’s my newest place in Santorini. The infinity pool was finished ahead of schedule, so we’re ready to go there.” Actually, that hotel was a gem. One of his favorites and it had been a damn wreck when he bought it just six months before. Now it sat on top of a cliff with a view that people would kill for. “I put the latest pictures on that key. Even I have to say they’re impressive as hell.”

“Okay. I’ll get them to our art director and he’ll include them when he sends everything to the printer.”

“Great.” He wandered over to the window, stared out at the view of the greenbelt and more office buildings, and told himself he’d made the right call setting his headquarters in Newport Beach. After a moment, he looked back over his shoulder at her. “Do any more thinking about that date we talked about yesterday?”

“Actually,” she said, standing to face him, “I have.”

He turned toward her. “And?”

“And what about tonight?”

Now it was his turn to shoot her a suspicious stare. “You want to go out with me tonight.”

She eased one hip against the corner of her desk, and his gaze swept over her from that yellow silk shirt to the short white skirt and the beige heels that made her legs look amazing. His eyes lifted to hers and he saw that glint of speculation again. He wasn’t sure what to make of this change of heart she was showing, but he’d be a fool to turn down the opportunity to get her alone.
